Owen O'Donnell 1800

Back to List

Owen O'Donnell married Ann McGonigal and they had at least the following children: Ann; James; Bridget; Patrick; John J; and Connal.

James, Patrick, Bridget and John J O'Donnell all ended up in St Louis MO. From DNA matches the family lived in the Legalton - Ballyshannon -
Donegal area of Ireland.

Ann married Patrick Gavigan and they lived in Legalton, Donegal.

James died in the home of his brother John's future brother-in-law, Michael McNeely, in St Louis. He owned a second hand store. His brother John J O'Donnell was the executor of his estate. The McNeely family was from Enniskillen, Fermanagh, and Donegal and I'm guessing that the O'Donnell and McNeely's knew each other from there.

Both Patrick and John J were St Louis City Policemen and both appeared to have a drinking problem from several notations on their employment records. Patrick committed suicide when left with the debts of his sister Bridget. Bridget had married a Patrick Dorsey and she died shortly after the birth of a daughter. Dorsey apparently took off. Nothing is known of Bridget's daughter. According to the death report on Patrick he had been drinking at the time of his suicide. He left a note for his mother, who he apparently missed terribly.

John J O'Donnell married Rose McNeely (daughter of Patrick McNeely and Rose McDonagh). They had three daughters: Anna Mae; Celeste; and Rosalie. The girls were young when their father was killed by a trolley car in St Louis - there was an indication he might have been drinking.
