Pat McAuliffe 1846

Back to List

Born in Listowel, Co. Kerry around 1846, Pat McAuliffe was a plasterer of great skill. From the 1870's he began to experiment with more elabourate and ambitious styles, borrowing from Art Nouveau, Celtic, and Byzantine styles. His work can be seen all over his native Listowel on the fronts of shops and pubs such as The Maid of Erin, Fitzmaurice Castle, The Georgian Square, The After Dark Nightclub, Cryle's Laundrette & Dry Cleaners, and The Emporium. His work can also be seen in Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick.

Since McAuliffe's death in 1920, those lucky enough to own buildings bearing his work have endeavoured to maintain them to the highest standard so that future generations can continue to enjoy his incredible artwork.
