Patrick Brady

 

Born about 1786 in Cavan Ireland to a John Brady (?-1821) and an Elizabeth Smith (?-?).  Left Ireland in about 1827 with wife and two children to Ontario Canada.  First child born in Canada was John Brady, born 22 Jan 1827 in Prescott Ontario Canada.   Had 4 other children born in Canada.  Wife Eliza died in 1878 in Canada.  Patrick died in Ontario 3 Dec 1884.  Although poor in Ireland (may have been inmate of a poor house), he gained ownership of his own land in Canada.  Burial in St Clare's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Ottawa, Ottawa Municipality, Ontario, Canada.    It must be said that Patrick was successful due to his migration to the new world.  His children become more successful later. 

 

Son John Brady later migrated to Springport NY US in about 1849.  He served in the Union side of the Civil War at age 37.  Became a US citizen in April 1863.  Owned land in Cayuga New York and later migrated to Dunlap, Iowa in 1874 after the death of his first wife, Catherine Cullen in 1868.  Catherine was born in Tara, Meath, Ireland and came to Boston Massachusetts US in 1847.  John and Catherine married in 1851.  John married again in 1870 to Mary Welch who was born in 1840 and came to US in about 1860 to care for John’s minor children.  She died in 1897 in Dunlap, Iowa.    John died in 1905 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States while living in the home of his son.  John owned more than 200 acres of farmland in Dunlap Iowa.  Both John and Mary are buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Dunlap Iowa
