Sergeant Patrick Breen was thought to have been born c 1847 in Monaghan. He joined the Royal Irish Constabulary in june 1866 aged 19. As a member of the RIC, he worked around the country, including Kildare, where the barracks was next door to where his future wife Bridget Nolan lived. They married on 23 Oct 1890 when he was 43 and she was 21. They moved to Navan and had three children Mary Catherine, Michael Joseph and John. Patrick died in Trim in 1895, aged 48, of heart trouble. Bridget returned with her children to live with her parents John and Jane Nolan (nee Byrne) in Blackditch, Kildare and became a shopkeeper.
