Migrated to/Born in USA

Patrick Burns was born in 1825 in Monarebbin, County Wexford and baptized Pat Byrne in Arklow Parish. His father was listed as Michael Byrne, mother as Sarah Waters. His siblings' baptismal records confirm that BYRNE was the family name before Patrick emigrated to America. I have found five baptismal records for Michael, Margaret, Patrick, Garrett, and Loughlin.

The family story is that Patrick indentured himself to pay his passage in 1847 and worked on a farm near Craryville, Columbia, New York. He worked as a laborer on Peter Markham's farm in Stockbridge, Massachusetts in 1850 and married Margaret Kilduff in 1852. By 1860 he had his own farm valued at $5500. Patrick's brother, Garrett, also immigrated and settled in Stockbridge. Patrick and Margaret had twelve children, four of which died as youngsters.

Patrick died in 1898 at the age of 73 and is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
