In March 1832 Patrick who was being held in Trim Goal co Meath  was granted a reprieve from a death sentence and given a seven year sentence “across the seas”. In July 1832 Patrick was transported to Australia on the convict ship Dunvegan Castle (2) arriving Sydney October 1832 DOM

  • Patrick’s church and convict records indicate that he was born in 1806 in co Meath married Anne Gibney in 1829 in co Meath and worked as a shepherd. They had two children Thomas born 1830 and John born 1831 He was convicted in the Meath Court in the early part of 1832 for “stealing a gun” and was sentenced to hang along with 14 other prisoners who had also been convicted of similar offences. In March 1832 Patrick along with his fellow prisoners who were also being held in Trim Goal co Meath was granted a reprieve and he then received a seven year sentence “across the seas”.
    In July 1832 Patrick was transported to Australia on the convict ship Dunvegan Castle (2) arriving in Sydney in October 1832. In 1837 he successfully petitioned for his wife Anne and surviving son John aged six (Thomas is assumed to have died in infancy) to come to Australia and they arrived on the SS Diamond in March 1838 to be reunited with Patrick who was living in the Shoalhaven district of New South Wales
