Migrated to/Born in USA

Patrick Cosgrove and Mary Smith Cosgrove  emigrated to the US and lived in New York State "for some time" before moving to Washington County, Wisconsin in 1855.  Partick was born 10/03/1815 and died 26/10/1903.  Mary Smith was born 02/18/1826.  They may have had as many as 5 children, but only these three are known to me ... a daughter Mary Ann, (February, 1856), a daughter Catherine (12/07/1860) and a son Nicholas, born 09/25/1858.  In 1867 they purchased land in Fond du Lac County near Eden, Wisconsin where they lived until Patrick died 10/26/1903.  Mary lived on the land until she died in 1901 at the age of 72.

Nicholas Cosgrove married Julia Clark (daughter of James Clark) in Wisconsin June 14, 1888.  They had 4 children, Francis (who died at age 9), Mary (Marie), Rose (Rosa) and Leo.  The daughter Mary, who, as an adult, preferred to be called Marie, was my maternal grandmother.  Marie married Wenzel Seiler and had four children, one of whom was Helen.  Helen was my mother.

So, my linage runs like this ... My mother was Helen Seiler.  Her parents were Wenzel Seiler and Mary (Marie) Cosgrove.  Marie was the daughter of Nicholas Cosgrove and Julia Clark.  Nicholas Cosgrove was the son of Patrick Cosgrove and Mary Smith.  Patrick Cosgrove and Mary Smith we believe were married in Ireland and emigrated from Ireland to the USA at some time prior to 1855.

I will add more details as I discover them.

This information, gained only from documents that were executed in the USA (Gov. Census, etc.) gives us only information of events taking place after leaving Ireland.  To day, I have been unable to make any connection directly to Ireland.  Naturally, I am very interested in knowing Patrick's place of birth.  At this time, it is fully my intention to come and visit, once I know where that place might be.

Lastly, it would seem that from first taking up residence in Wisconsin, USA, the family was engaged in farming. It may be that they were farming in Ireland also.

Thank you for your help.

ADDED 02/28/21   ... I have reason to believe that Patrick Cosgrove was from County Galway.  I can't be more specific than that.  I also believe that his wife Mary may have been English.  Additionally, it may be that Patrick emegrated to Engliand and then met and married Mary Smith there, before going to the US.  This needs to be verified.
