Patrick Garvin was born in March 1835 in  Donegal, Ireland. arrived in the US at Boston in 1843. He joined the Union Army in Kentucky, on 3 Jun 1861. He was a private in Company F, 1st Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. His enlistment papers list Ballyshannon Ireland as his birth place. He was medically discharged on 21 November 1863. He requested his personal effects be sent to Indiantown, St. John, New Brunswick, Cananda. He married Mary Ellen Driscoll on June 23, 1864, in Davidson, Tennessee. Patrick owned a land grant in Jackson County Alalbama, and also had a saloon in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was very active in the 5th ward politics in Chattanooga. They had eight children in 15 years. He was naturalized in the State of Alabama, 10 Sept 1891. His original petition was sent back due to not proper affidavit.
He died on February 28, 1902, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the age of 66, and was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, East Ridge, Tennessee.
