  • This is my 2 x Great Grandfather who migrated to Liverpool in the late 1800's and married a Liverpool girl, Francis Atkinson Houghton.  They married in St George's Church in Everton, around the corner from Anfield in 1897.  Francis was a Protestant and they married in a Cof E church but the children, Catherine, Martin, Patrick and John Dennis were all baptised RC.

In 1900, the family moved across the Mersey to Birkenhead in Wirral, a full five miles, and the family established roots there, most of us are still here.  At the outbreak of war, Patrick joined the Connaught Rangers, his enlistment place is shown as Galway, he was in his late 40's.  on August 23rd, 1915, he was killed in action at Gallipoli, his body never returning home.  He is mentioned on the cenotaph in Birkenhead.

His son Martin is my Great Grandfather.  His daughter Joan, my Grandmother, her daughter Gillian my mother.  This branch of the Lyons has spread even further to Canada, The USA and throughout the UK.  It all started in Tuam.......
