Patrick Geraghty was born in Carrownaclea, County Mayo, the son of Edward Geraghty and Judy Ludden. He married Mary Killeen on 21 Feb 1863 in Islandeady Parish. In May of 1884 Patrick, Mary and their six children who ranged in age from 20 to 7 emigrated to the United States. They settled in St. Paul, MN.
