Patick Rice, born c. 1840, was a soldier in the British Army, like many other Irishmen in the 19th century. He was posted to India, where his daughter, Ellen, was born in the 1860s. The family seem to have returned to Ireland, as Ellen married John Hinch in Clonegal, Carlow, in 1878. She lived at Sherwood.
There are several Patrick Rices mentioned in British Army records but it has been impossible to establish which one - if any - he is.
