PETER LOY : Short Biography

Peter Loy, Male, was my great-grandfather, departing Liverpool, England on the ship New World, arriving in the United States, New York, on 12 April 1853. His listed age on date of immigration was 22 (Twenty-two). Peter's estimated birth year was 1831. Peter was accompanied by 1. Judy Loy, Female, Age listed as 27 (Twenty-seven) on date of immigration 12 April 1853. Judy's estimated birth year was 1826. 2. Sally Loy, Female, Age listed as 7 (Seven) on date of immigration 12 April 1853. Sally's estimated birth year was 1846. 3. John Loy, Male, Age listed as 5 (Five) on date of immigration 12 April 1853. John's estimated birth year was 1848. I can only assume that Peter Loy and Judy Loy were husband and wife, and Sally Loy and John Loy were their children. Another assumption is that they were Roman Catholic. All of the above individuals were Irish by birth. Their specific locality in Ireland is unknown. Peter and his family relocated to the State of Minnesota after their arrival in the United States. Apparently, Judy Loy, Sally Loy and John Loy eventually died. Peter never remarried, but had at least one additional Son with Judy, also named John, and who was my grandfather. After Peter's wife and children passed away, he lived with John (my grandfather) and my father (Walter) in Minnesota. Sometime thereafter, they all moved to the neighboring State of North Dakota, where my grandfather eventually purchased property and started farming. I have not yet been able to establish an exact date and place of death in North Dakota for Peter; however, his name appears on a 1910 U.S. Census. The next Census does not include his name, only my grandfather and my father.
