Peter's birth year is approximated from the Minnesota Census records of 1860, 1870, 1880 and his death certificate in 1902. He left Ireland during the Potato Famine and settled in Maine. Peter married his wife Winifred Higgins in Maine in 1852 and their first three children were born there: Mary 1854, James 1855 and Peter 1857. The family moved to Minnesota in 1859 and farmed with his parents Thomas and Ellen in Dakota County. The farm passed to Peter upon the death of his father. Two more children were born in Minnesota: Bridget 1861 and Martin 1863.
Peter was living with his daughter Bridget at 212 Bunker Street at the time of his death.
