Pilib Ó Donnacháin aka Philip Doonican (Dunican / Duncan / Donakin / Dunnigan/ Donoughan) appears on Croghan (Killucan and Ballinameen) RC parish records in 1815 with a confirmed address at Tartan, Ballinameen. 

Thanks to his record (with wife Brigid Shannon) all the early 18th-century families in Tartan can be determined. 

He was still alive in 1846 when he godparented for his sister Mary Doonakin & Matthew Beirne.

  • I am a Shannon from Tartan , we have been residing there since 1648 . Doonicans, Noones, (Noon) Harrington’s Beirnes we’re adjoining farming, neighbours, my grandmother was a Mary Beirne . ,who married John Shannon , the last remaining of the family who inherited the property , most of his family emigrated to the USA , & two brothers to Australia. Our Dad Patrick John passed away 20 years ago , Oct 1999.
