Ralph Gore was the third son of the Hon. Paul Gore and Anne Leonard of Wexford. Ralph was born in 1781 in Ireland, and joined the Royal Navy in 1795, rising to the rank of Commander in 1835. In 1809 he married Francis Hay in Cloyne, Co. Cork. Their two sons went over to England in search of employment, both finding positions as excise officers. Ralph retired to Scotland after a successful navy career, and he and his wife are buried in Alloa, Clackmananshire.
