Richard Ennis was born in 1822 at Ballyboughal, Co Dublin. His father was John and mother's name is not known.
He married Margaret Henderson/Anderson who was born in 1824 at Leixlip Co Kildare
They had two children, Patrick born 1843? in Dublin and Mary born 1849 Porterstown, Castleknock Co Dublin
Richard was transported with his brother Patrick Ennis (alias Eiffe} to Port Arthur, Tasmania (Van Diemens Land) in 1852. Their sentence was seven years.They arrived in Tasmania in August 1852 aboard the Lord Dalhousie.
Richard married Catherine Shank in 1866 at Montagu Tasmania.Richard and Patrick had settled there after their release.
Richard left Montagu in 1871 for Tallarook, north of Melbourne in Victoria and obtained a property he named Glengobbin.
Richard and Catherine had five children born in Tasmania - Henry John 1860, Richard 1862, Catherine 1864, Ellen 1866, Patrick Joseph 1868.
Richard died 1914 in Tallarook.
