Richard Nixon states in his WO97 Record (Attestation & Discharge) in the Army, predominantly the 97th Regiment of Foot, that he was born about 1817 in St. John's, Athy, Kildare, Ireland. He marries Elizabeth Jennett around 1837-1840 either in Ireland or England although I cannot track a marriage in the England Civil Registration database from July 1, 1837 forward. He has a career with the military, serving in Corfu, Greece then Malta and then Jamaica.
My great great grandmother Hannah Nixon, his daughter, wa born in 1843 in Corfu, Ionian Islands, Greece and on the back of one of her photos it indicates that she received an education in Jamaica. She goes on to marry William Webb of the BlackWatch regiment in 1866 in Ireland before he ships out to China.
Richard finishes up his career with the West Essex Militia in Colchester, Essex, England and can be found on the 1861 to 1881 censuses living in Chelmsford, Essex, England. He dies there in 1886.
Any help would be appreciated. The RC registers at the NLI are unreadable and incomplete for this time period.
