Richard was the eldest son of Cornelius O'Keeffe and Mary Cunningham.
He was baptised in St John's Church, Dromagh. He came to Australia by himself in November 1877 on the Newcastle from London.
His father was a farmer and/or wheelwright in Clonbanin.
