Richard O'Reilly was born in Dublin about 1830, the son of Catherine (nee Higgins) and Laurence O'Reilly, a distiller. 

His address before leaving Ireland was 34 Thomas Street, Dublin.  Griffith's Valuations of Ireland lists Peter and Michael O'Reilly at Thomas St, St Catherine's, Dublin
1850 Oxley Dublin City Directory lists Peter O'Reilly, 35 Thomas St (victualler)

Richard migrated to Australia between 1850-1852,  He may have travelled via the USA and sailed from San Francisco.  His occupation was given as miner or labourer. 

He married Maria McGuiness in Castlemaine, Victoria in 1854, and they had 12 children - Edward (1855-1856), Catherine Elizabeth (1857-1937), Anna Maria (b.1858), Mary Ellen (b. 1860), Richard Thomas (1862-1940), Lawrence Edward (1865-1931), Edward (1866-1866), Eliza Siscelia (1869-1890), William (1870-1920), Agnes (1872-1941), Sarah / Sally (1872-1964) and Alice Frances (1875-1971). 

Richard died on 29 September 1891 in Castlemaine, Victoria, and is buried in the Castlemaine Cemetery.
