Robert departed for Australia on 14th Jan 1871, from Plymouth, aboard the ship 'BENGAL'. Two years later in Melbourne, he married scottish Catherine McINTYRE. Robert and Catherine had nine children, two of those dying as infants.
Robert was born on 23 Jun 1846 in Screeby, Parish of Kilskeery, County Tyrone. He was the third of six children born to Robert Beatty and Mary BRADEN. Robert had an older brother called John who also emigrated to Australia. John's death certificate (1882) states that he had been in Victoria for 16 years, making his arrival in Victoria about 1866.
