The Battle of Lobositz (Lowositz in the Czech Republic) took place on 1 Oct 1756. It was the opening land battle of the Seven Years' War, as Frederick the Great's Prussian Army were halted in their tracks by the Austri-ans under Maximilian Ulysses Count Browne. Serving under Browne was Patrick O’Malley, though he would perish at the beginning of this conflict. O’Malley, whose family seat was in Rosehill in Mayo, was the son of Mary-Magdalen Blake and nephew of Robert Blake of Dunsandle, Loughrea. Pictured is ‘Prospect der Bataille bey Lowosiz’ by Ben Jochai.
