I feel blessed to link my Irish Ancestors (on my paternal side) to Co. Down, (with the surnames McSherry & Curran the 2 I know the most about) during the 19th Century, specifically to the Portaferry and Killough areas of Co. Down. Both my McSherry (Fisherman's Row in Killough) and my Curran (was originally called New Row, now called Shore Road in Portaferry) direct Ancestors were all Roman Catholic and predominantly Seafarers. However, my research (online, old newspapers, books, blogs, BMD records, interviews with living relatives, sifting through boxes of old family records, etc.) has only gotten me back to the early 1810's on both the McSherrry and the Curran branches my paternal family tree, and what information I have been able to gather over years of research is incomplete, at best. I feel I’ve exhausted all resources known to me, so any help or assistance anyone may be willing to provide me would be HUGELY appreciated. My 3 top wishes (there are more than 3, but beggars can't be choosers, right?) are: (1) Try to determine the current physical address for the structures (assuming they remain standing today) that my Curran Ancestors lived in on New Row (now Shore Road) in Portaferry, and that my McSherry Ancestors lived in on Fisherman's Row in Killough, during the 1800's, (2) Try to determine the maiden names, dates of birth, places of birth, names of children, siblings and even parents for the spouse of my 3rd great-grandfather, Robert Curran, Sr., (a Portaferry Whitesmith, who filed for Bankruptcy sometime in mid-1800's), married to a woman named Catherine (my 3rd great-grandmother), and the spouse of my 3rd great-grandfather, Capt. Richard McSherry (a Seafarer and Publican originally from Killough, later of Belfast) who, in the year of his death in Sep 1887, was married to a woman referred to in Will Calendar/Will record as "Mary Adair McSherry" (she died in Feb 1887 in Belfast); and (3) Try to connect with individuals alive today who also have a direct connection to either (or both) the McSherry seafaring Family of Killough, Co. Down, and/or the Curran seafaring Family of Portaferry, Co. Down. Any help or assistance anyone may be willing to provide me would be HUGELY appreciated!! Thank you in advance for taking the time to read about me and my Irish Ancestors from County Down. Here is what I do know... McSherry, Curran**, Adair, Quin/Quinn (known surnames on my Paternal Side), All Primarily Seafarers: I would love to find any information I can about my other 3rd great-grandfather, Robert Curran, Sr., the Whitesmith in Portaferry, Co. Down, his wife Catherine, their parents and siblings, along with their other children (Capt. Robert Curran, Jr.'s siblings), and their life in Portaferry, Co. Down living on New Row/Shore Road. I am also trying to locate information regarding whether the Curran's who remain in Portaferry, Co. Down area of Ireland today are connected to my Portaferry Curran Family (my Curran ancestors were mostly all seafarers), and whether the McSherry's who remain in the Killough, Co. Down area of Ireland today are connected to my McSherry Family (my McSherry ancestors were mostly all seafarers too), as it would be wonderful to figure out my direct connection to them and exchange information to break down my Irish "Brick Walls".
