Migrated to/Born in USA

Roger Doud was born around 1820 in the parish of Dunamon, County Galway (now Roscommon). I know nothing of his life before he emigrated to the United States.

Roger left from Dublin on 18 March 1840 and arrived in New York on 25 May 1840. By 1846, he was living in the US state of Illinois with his American wife Frances Rebecka Norris, and they eventually had 8 children. Roger applied for US citizenship in 1852, and his Declaration of Intent statement is my source for his age and county of origin. He lived in Mercer County, Illinois, until 1866 or 1867, when the family moved to Poweshiek County, Iowa. Roger Doud died in Poweshiek County on 23 April 1886.

Roger had a brother named Peter Doud who also emigrated from Ireland and settled in Illinois by 1846.

Both Roger and Peter named their eldest sons Daniel, which suggests that their father may have been called Daniel Doud.
