  • I am third cousin to several Coynes who came from Galway according to the 23andMe DNA database. I am not acquainted with any of them. My great-grandfather was Joseph Garrity, born about 1823 in Galway. He along with his sister Annie, born in 1831, emigrated to the states in the mid 1840's. I suspect that Kate Geraghty was their older sister. Joseph's daughter, my great aunt Mary kept all the oral history from Ireland in her head. Before she passed in 1933 she told it to my father and one or two other cousins. Unfortunately they were only kids at the time and it went in one ear and out the other. But the names Norah, Joyce, and Cain managed to survive, though nothing is known. Kyne could be the surname Cain. I wish there was a way to identify my Great-Great-Grandparents. If anyone can share additional insight I would be so grateful. Erick Garrity from Lexington, Kentucky.
