Sarah Hetherington was born in Straidnahana, Ballylinny to Andrew Hetherington and Sarah Percy in 1828.
She married Robert Martin on 13 August 1857 in the Old Presbyterian Manse House in Ballyclare, Antrim, in the presence of James Piercy and Joseph Edward Logan. Sarah was a spinster and Robert was a bachelor from Loughriscouse, Newtownards, Down, Ireland at the time of marriage. Robert was born in 1816 to Robert B. Martin and Letitia Hamilton in Loughriscouse, Newtownards, Down, Ireland.
Robert and Sarah gave birth to 4 sons and 2 daughters in Loughriscouse at a place called Mooreland Farms.
In 1871 they left from the port in Belfast aboard the ship Tarifa and landed in the port of Liverpool, England and then went on to the port of Boston, Massachusetts, USA landing 15 September 1871. They had a son born at sea whom they named James Tarifa Martin. He died 9 months later in St Louise, Missouri, USA.
Robert and Sarah made their abode in St Louis, Missouri for 9 years. In 1880 they went on to settle in Ogden, Weber, Utah, USA where they lived until they were deceased. Robert died in 1893 and Sarah in 1901.
