Migrated to /Born in Canada

Stephen Tomlinson was my great great grandfather born about 1790 most likely in County Carlow. He emigrated to Upper Canada(Ontario Canada) in 1817/18 with a group of settlers all from County Carlow and Wexford who had applied to receive land grants in Upper Canada as they felt that their lives were at risk if they continued to live in Ireland because of the continuing tension due to the Rebellion of 1798. His parents may have been Nicholas Tomlinson and Elizabeth Wilson based upon DNA matches.

He married Jane Salter(Saulter) in 1822 in Perth, Upper Canada. She was born about 1800 in County Carlow (?) and also came with her parents about the same time as Stephen to Upper Canada. They raised a family of 10 children: Mary b. 1828, Ann b. 1829, John b. 1832, Margaret b. 1833, Stephen b. 1836, Alice b. 1837, William b. 1841, Nicholas Joseph b. 1841, Peter b. 1843, Thomas b. 1850.

They moved several times before settling in Kincardine township, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada where he died 17 April 1867.
