Thomas Brady was born around 1780 in County Cavan, Ireland to Andrew Brady and Nelly Lawlor.  

He married Mary Anne Gartland around 1805 in County Cavan and they had 5 children.  Mary Anne born about 1806, Patrick born about 1811, Thomas around 1813, Catherine around 1815 and Elizabeth around 1817. 

His wife Mary Anne Gartland died in County Cavan, Ireland leaving two sons and three daughters, who accompanied Thomas to Canada.  On his arrival he first came to Alfred Road and settled on a lot in the 3rd Concession in Plantagenet Township, Prescott County, Ontario, Canada with his brother John.  The first settlers of whom we have any knowledge were Messrs. Holmes and Pattee who probably came here during the early years of 1800 and settled on Alfred Road.   Along with pioneers Thomas and John Brady were the families of Lightle, Tierney, McCaskill and Collgan, they settled farther towards the north of the Township near the locality which was known as Bradyville,  Named after Thomas and John Brady.  Years later Bradyville was changed to Alfred, Ontario, Canada. 

Thomas was married a second time in 1838 to Mrs. Beers (Mary Barnham born 1806 in Point Fortune, Quebec, Canada) widow of Elisha Woodworth Beers who had been drowned in the Long Sault rapids.  His widow was engaged in teaching before marrying Thomas Brady.  By this marriage Thomas and Mary Brady had two sons and two daughters, Francis born 1841, Andrew born 1844, Mary Elizabeth born 1846 and Alice Anne "Anna"  born 1849.   Mr. Brady took an active part in the municipal affairs of Alfred and was one of the first councillors, acting in that capacity and as Reeve for 16 years.   He was also Coroner for five years.  He and his wife also owned and operated a hotel in Alfred as well as running a farm.   Thomas died in 1862 at age 88 and Mrs. Brady died in February of 1887 at age 81.  His brother John born around 1797 in County Cavan, Ireland came to Canada around 1821 and married Rachel McDonnell on July 16, 1822 at St. Raphaels Church in Alexandria, Glengarry County, Ontario, Canada.  They lived in Bradville, Plantagenet Township, Prescott County, Ontario, Canada and had 5 children.  Donald born 1826, John 1828, James 1831, Ellen 1836 and Helena born 1837.  In the 1840's they moved to Ingersoll, Oxford, Ontario, Canada where they owned and operated a hotel.  John died in 1853 in Ingersoll and his wife Rachel McDonnell died in 1883.
