Thomas Cantwell was born c.1786. He married Mary LONERGAN (date unknown). One son, Michael, who we believe to have been the oldest child was born in Clonmel on 8 November 1819. He was baptized at St. Mary's, Irishtown. Other known children of Thomas and Mary were Margaret (1827), John (1828), Stephen (1832), Simon (1835), Jeremiah (1836) and Thomas (1842).
We know that (at least) Michael and Margaret emigrated. Michael to Indianapolis, Indiana about 1848 and Margaret to LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Thomas (as above), their father also went to live with Margaret at some point and he died in 1873. Margaret Cantwell married John Manning and is buried in LaCrosse.
Michael married Bridget Moore, daughter of Michael Moore and Johanna Connell. Their wedding took place at St. Mary's Irishtown on 28 November 1846.
Michael and Bridget had a number of children including Thomas Edward (b:1853). Another son, Edward J. Cantwell has a great -granddaugher, Maria Cantwell who is the U.S. Senator from Washington State USA.
