Thomas F. Walsh was born in Lisronagh, County Tipperary, Ireland on  April 2, 1850.  When a teenager he became apprenticed to a Wheelright.

At the age of 19, he emigrated to the USA and went to Colorado where he eventually became the owner of a mine.

Later he married Carrie B. Reed and they had at least two children. Mrs. Walsh died in 1932.

By the time Mr. Walsh died in April 1910  he had amassed a fortune and was known as the "Colorado Silver Mine King."  He was buried in Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, DC.
