Thomas Tobin's parents were *James Tobin and Bridget MESKILL (not Driscol) and they were from Curradarra Townland, Algish Parish, Waterford. Thomas was born in 1858 and baptised 29 Aug 1858 (there was a transcription error and Bridget's name was written as Driscol, but all other records including her birth have her as Meskill/Mesgil). Thomas was eroneously been given the middle name of Eugene on one ancestry tree and the name was perpetrated, but his middle name was Francis. Records show his son was Thomas Francis Jr.
There were three known siblngs; Michael Tobin born 9 Dec 1855, Catherine Tobin Kenneally born 31 Aug 1860 and James Tobin born 21 May 1867. Michael and Catherine both stayed in Curradarra and his brother James came to New York in 1889 on the ship "Umbria".
Thomas immigrated to America in 1884 on the ship "Celtic". He was naturalized in Bureau County, IL 1 Nov 1890. On 15 Nov 1892 he married Mary Langon (she immigrated in 1892 from Ireland on the ship "City of Berlin"). The marriage was solemnized by the Rev. Jeremiah Moynihan in the Holy Catholic Church in Arlington, Bureau, IL. Mike Brown and Ellen (unreadable) were the witnesses. (Mary's parents were Patrick Longan and Margaret Broderick; she was born in Coolnanav in the parish of Dungarvan, Co. Waterford 22 Jan 1872.)
Thomas and Mary lived in Arlington until 1905. Their children - James Cleveland born 2 Jul 1893, William Patrick born 5 Jan 1895, Thomas Francis (II) born 14 Apr 1896, Mary (Tobin Stevens) born 1898, Margaret Agatha (Tobin Schlim) born 24 Jun 1901, John John Eugene born 2 Jun 1899, Catherine A. (Tobin Sellers) born 1904, and Ellen (Helen) V (Tobin Merritt)T born 1905, were all born in Arlington, IL.
The family moved to Clearwater, Minor County SD in 1905. Thomas and Mary had six more children; Michael Henry born 17 Jul 1906, Joseph Nicholas born 23 Dec 1908, Theresa Nora (Tobin Shattuck) born 10 Mar 1910, Annie (Tobin McBride) born 27 Oct 1911, Edward George (also as Edward Francis) born 18 May 1913, and Elizabeth (also shown as Esther) born 2 Sep 1914.
Thomas farmed his entire life (as did his family) and lived in several areas before ending out his days Morgan, Sully County South Dakota. He died in his home of a heart ailment and is buried in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Gettysburg, Potter County, SD.
I have documentation on all of the Curradarra Tobins. (Curradarra in later civil records for the Tobin family descendants is "Whitechurch, Dungarvan, Curradarra).
I am related to Thomas by way of James Tobin. James was the brother of my 3rd great grandmother Catherine Tobin Curran (Curreen) Flynn. I have all the information (with documents) and also have DNA matches to at least three known Thomas Tobin descendants.
*Bridget Meskil (aka Meskill, Mesgil) was baptized 6 Feb 1829. Her father was Michael Mesgil and her mother was Catherine Fitzgerald. The witnesses' to the baptism were Michael Tobin (believed to be James Tobin and his sibling's father), and Mary Keefe. James and Bridget were married 30 Jan 1855 in Shanakill, Algish Parish, with the ceremony performed by Father O'Meara, (the same priest who performed Catherine Tobin Curreen's marriage). The witnesses were John Tobin and Helen Keating.
