Thomas Higgins was the son of Bryan Higgins and Bridget Mahon. He was born in County Roscommon about 1825. Thomas was a laborer and peasant farmer. The 1847-1860 Griffiths Valuation Index for County Roscommon, Barony: Castlereagh Parish; Kilcorkey Townland, Tully shows his father,leasing land from Rev. Henry Pakenham. Thomas became a landholder in 1869. He married Mary Coll in County Roscommon about 1860. They had eight known children. Patrick J. born about 10 Jul 1863, Thomas born on 23 Jul 1864, Mary and Margaret born on 27 Jul 1866. Ellen ‘Nellie’ born on 11 May 1869, Mary Anne born on 13 Oct 1873, Sarah born about 1874 and Catherine “Kate” born about 1878. Patrick, Thomas, Mary, Ellen “Nellie’ and Sarah emigrated to New Jersey. Thomas died in County Roscommon on 2 Feb 1890.
