We have tried for 50 years to discover where in Ireland my wife's paternal great grandfather originated. Her grandfather Henry Humphrey (supposed son of Edward) was born in Marylebone, London, England, but family 'lore' says he had Irish roots.
We now know this to be correct, and we have a definite DNA link to three families in America, all descended from THOMAS HUMPHREY of Fermanagh, or his close family, and he emigrated from Belfast, Ireland to the United States in 1790 with his wife, Nancy Patterson, and some of his children (including a son baptised in St. Anne's Church, Shankill, Belfast.
We are confident we can take the line back from Thomas (1790) to the Thomas who founded the Fermanagh line in ireland from 1638. He was Thomas Humphrey, second son of Charles Humphrey of Rishangles in Suffolk, England.
We have a skeletal line between these two family members, but it is far from complete, as Birth, Marriage and Death records just do not exist to allow continuity. The family passes though Humphreys called William, Christopher, Richard, John, Thomas etc. for half a dozen generations, from Tullynagen via Drumhoney, Dromard, Cullaghmore, Slievebane, and Clareview.
We would dearly like to expand our knowledge of all these Humphrey lines, and if anyone can help would appreciate being contacted direct at rex1937[at]gmail.com
