Thomas John WALSHE was born in Phillipstown (now Daingen) in Kings County 3rd December 1850, the sixth of eleven children born to Matthew WALSHE & Catherine (Kate) O'CONNOR.

With his older brother James he migrated to Australia in the late 1860s at the encouragement of Michael McAlroy who was a Catholic pastor in the Goulburn Diocese of New South Wales.

They worked as carpenters on board ship (perhaps to pay their way) & settled in the Albury District on the border of New South Wales & Victoria where they built many fine houses & shops.

Their two most notable large public buildings were Saint Patrick's Church, Albury, & the Albury Railway Station. Both of these beautiful buildings still stand as proud testiment to their work today.

In February 1882 Thomas married Ann Jane CHURCH & they had a family of eight children: Matthew (1883-1884); Gabriel (1884-1950); James Joseph (1885-1949); Ann (1886-1969);

Thomas, (1888-1979); Catherine (1891-1958);  Elizabeth (1897-1990) & Matthew (1898-`989).
