My father was born, according to a later copy of his birth certificate, in Coolnagun townland. He was the son (possibly fourth of five) of Bernard Kiernan and Elizabeth Kearney. His younger brother was called Joseph. His parents died whilst he was young and he and his younger brother emigrated to England in the mid-1930s with their friend Christie Lynch who came to his funeral in Leicester in 1986. He fought in WWII and became a naturalised UK citizen, living the rest of his life in the village of Narborough, Leicestershire, England.
