Thomas McCallan was my 4th great-grandfather, the father of Sarah who married James Camblin. He was not mentioned on their marriage record and it has only been possible to find out a little about him from DNA matches. A marriage listed in the marriage licence bonds for the diocese of Armagh has a marriage for Thomas McCallan and Allice Walker in 1827, after the supposed birth of Sarah. Three daughters and two sons have been found - all the marriages (except for Sarah) have their father listed as Thomas McCallan, farmer and the residences as Mullavilly, Cabra and nearby Cornascribe. Thomas McCallan was listed on the Griffith's Valuation of about 1865 as leasing teacher's apartments and land in Cabragh.  He died at Cabragh in 1871, his occupation described as schoolmaster and he was widowed. The death of a Rose McCallan in 1878 at Cabra seems to be linked - Rose was aged 75, a schoolmistress. The informant for Thomas's death was Adam Reid of Cabragh and the informant for Rose was Mary Jane Reed of Cabra.
