Thomas was my Great Grandfather. His son Danial Patrick was my grandfather, and his son Lawrence Thomas was my father. Thank you so much for this information.

Thomas was born in 1857 in Kilmallock, County Limerick, Ireland. According to my father he immigrated in 1871 to somewhere in Canada and eventually took a boat down the east coast, walked across the Isthmus of Panama in 1872 and from there went up the coast to Port Gamble, Washington Territory. He worked as a logger, married in 1882 in Port Madison and worked supervising a sailing fleet. He and his family, five children, moved to Seattle in 1904 and he worked as a lumber inspector. Thomas died in Seattle September 29, 1939. His death certificate indicates his parents were Daniel and Ann Mortell.

Lindy, Do you know anything further back about Thomas Mortell? My father told me he was from Kilmallock, County Limerick but I don't know much else. My father was born in 1904, he was the youngest in the family, the only one of his siblings that I knew was Mame.

Hi Jane,
I do not have much more on Thomas. Unfortunately my grandfather died very young in 1929 - Daniel Patrick Mortell. I'm still looking - Will keep you posted!

I’ll look through the old albums, I probably have some photos of Thomas Mortell and his family. I guess Daniel would have been my uncle; my family was my Dad’s second family -his first wife died in 1941 and then he married my mother in around 1944; he was older and died around 1978. My mother, however, lived to 99 1/2, she died in 2012.
