Tim Guiney was born June 5, 1839 in Newmarket, County Cork. He was the Shopkeeper/ Farmer/Guardian.Clerk of Kanturk Poor Law Union/Workhouse.
He married Ellen Carver in 1863.
His eldest son Patrick (Paddy) Guiney, Newmarket - born March 16 1867 was an irish nationalist politician, agrarian agitator! and became and an MP representing North Cork as part of the All-for-Ireland Leage Group in 1911 in the House of Common. He servied three terms of imprisonment for activity in the Land War. He became a farmer and served as councillor for Newmarket and Cork County Council (1908-11) as well as Chair of Newmarket Agricultural Society and Newmarket Gaelic League. He was a supporter of William O'Brien's All-for Ireland League and built a personal political base as a Land and Labourt Association Activist. He was elected MP for North Cork in Jan 1910 general Election and reelected in December 1910 general election. He married Nanette O' Connor of Bally Clough in 1895.
He died on October 12, 1913, after contracting pneumonia and is buried in Clonfert Cemetery, Newmarket .
His brother (2nd son) John Guiney, Solicitor, Kanturk - ws returned unopposed for his seat in the resulting by-election as his replacement & became MP between 1913 and 1921.
Patrick and John were my grand-uncles & uncles of my Dad Philip Burton, FG TD eor North Cork from 1961 - 1969. County Councillor and Senator/Auctioneer.
He passed away Jan 3, 1995 (26 years ago this week!)
