Timothy Joseph Flanagan was born circa July 1850 in Annaghbeg, Tulsk, County Roscommon, Ireland. He was the son of Michael Flanagan, a small farmer. They lived in a small thatched cottage in a thirty six acre shared with their neighbours, Andrew McNamara and Michael McNeive. TImothy had a large and poor family.
Circa 1872, he immigrated to the United States of America. He was about twenty-two years old. He settled in Denver, Colorado and found work in the coal mines sprawling all over the state. On 10 June 1880, he married Catherine May Donnelly from Wisconsin.

His niece Mary Anne "Molly" Dufficy, the daughter of his sister Bridget Flanagan, immigrated to America in 1888. She lived with Timothy's family for a while before her marriage. Her younger brothers Timothy and Martin Dufficy arrived in subsequent years.
In 1900, Timothy (49) lived on High Street in the town of South Erie in Weld Colorado. With him was his wife Catherine (44) and his children Joseph (16), John (14), Theodore (10) and Bernard (6). He was a section foreman in the mines, meaning he had full control over the workers of one section. His sons all attended school.
Catherine died on 14 Dec 1907, aged about fifty one years old. She left Timothy with Joseph (23), John (21), Theodore (17) and Bernard (13). They continued living in Colorado but after her death, Timothy migrated to Reno, Sheridan, Nebraska. In 1910, aged fifty nine years old, he lived as a boarder with Mrs Georgie E Rooker (58) and her sons Guy F Rooker (23) and Chester W Rooker (21). He worked as a section foreman on the local railroad along with the two Rooker boys, who were labourers there. Mrs Rooker ran a stock ranch.
Timothy Joseph Flanagan died on 28 Jul 1916 in Lakeside, Sheridan, Nebraska.
