  • Re Timothy McCarthy and Catherine Curran

My daughter, Caitlin Meleady, and her mother, Carolyn Kelleher, are searching for my daughter's great-great-great grandfather, Timothy McCarthy, who was from somewhere in County Kerry.  According to his obituary, he was born in October 1825.

Timothy emigrated to the United States, possibly in 1852, possibly arriving in Maine from Canada.  He married Catherine Curran - we don't know if they married in Ireland or the USA. Census records indicate Catherine was born in Ireland around 1830.  Their children, including our ancestor Elizabeth, were born in Bangor, Maine.

Catherine and the children migrated to California in 1864, sailing around the Horn to San Francisco, then overland to Grass Valley, California, where they met up with Timothy, who was already there. They settled in Virginia City, Nevada, where he was a silver miner, and later, a saloon-keeper. Timothy died in Virginia City of natural causes in June 1888.  We do not have information about Catherine after that.

We've searched Irish records in the major genealogy websites without results.  Is there someone who has any information about Timothy and/or Catherine's birth, marriage and parents?

    Robert
