Valentine Rochfort was born to Richard and Catherine Rochfort (or Rochford) on 14 Feb, 1792. He had siblings Thomas, Walter, Stephen, Mary and Anne. They lived in Mullagh town, Cavan. Valentine left for England in 1813. By 1822 he was a successful shopkeeper in Bradford, a hatter and staymaker, and had married Mary Anne Rowley. They had at least 14 children, only 3 surviving to adult-hood, and two to have children of their won.
