Stayed in Ireland

William Henry McConnell was my great-grandfather, the only child of William John McConnell and Margaret McCully. He was born in Belfast but went to the Model school in Newtownards. He worked for the same company as a stone-mason and brick-layer for over 50 years. He married Sarah Alice Courtney on 19 October 1897 at St Anne's, Belfast, known as the runaway church. They lived in various parts of Belfast. William is buried in the Dundonald Cemetery.

  • I am trying to find any relatives still living in Ireland.

David McConnell (Born 1777 and died in 1838 in Toledo Ohio).  He and his wife Elizabeth Farr migrated to the USA around 1832 with 8 of their children.  Their oldest son (William McConnell, born May 12, 1804) stayed in Ireland because he was already married.  I believe his wife's name was Catherine Higginson.  William died June 17, 1876.  They were from County Antrim.

  • My 2nd great-grandfather was James McConnell born in Antrim, Northern Ireland in 1842 or 1847? He was the eldest son of William McConnell of Cherryvalley, Antrim, Northern Island. Mother's name possibly Catherine? James migrated to Australia in 1862 as aide-de-camp to the Governor of Victoria, Sir Samuel Wilson who I believe was also from Antrim, Northern Ireland. He then joined Messrs Mort & Co as a manager on the Lachlan before migrating to Taveuni Island, Fiji. Is this the same family? I haven't been able to find any information on his siblings.
