He married Anna M Hutchinson on May 19, 1898, in Chicago, Illinois. William and Anna moved the family to Minneapolis, MN. He received high praise for his work as a police detective and was appointed Minneapolis Police Chief from 1931-1933. William and Anna had seven children in 26 years. He died on May 13, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the age of 68, and was buried in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
