My Grandfather came from Magheralin in 1926 to New Zealand. I have researched all Carsons around the area as best I can from here. The Carson family is connected to Archers and Bostons also from this area. My Direct line back is. William Robert Carson born 8/7/1906 Mother Ellen Carson born 7/7/1887. Then Robert Carson born 29/6/1840 Monree married Deborah Boston, born 27/10/1844 Magheralin, then Roberts father; Joseph Carson Born? Down married 21/4/1829 Boardmills Sarah Shannon born 29/4/1789  

I have siblings of above Robert. Joseph B;1838 Ballymagin married Eliza Jane Holland, They had large family. Joseph born 1865, Eliza Jane 1867, Elin 1869, Robert 1870( large family) Mary Ann born 1874 married Charles Archer ( may have family still in area)

And  John Carson B;@1836? married Elizabeth Carson; Children born Donacloney Joseph 1879, William 1881, Thomas John 1884 and Richard 1886 married Margaret McCrory Dec 1911.

    I notice you say you have researched a lot of Carsons.  I wonder if you might have any information about Sarah Carson, daughter of Robert Carson, a farmer.  She married Samuel Stewart, a farmer in Ballyvester.  Sarah Carson died Jan 13, 1891 at 69 years of age & her husband, Samuel Stewart died May 14, 1907 at 77 years.  They had a daughter, Margaret, who married William John Reains in India May 2, 1873.  Margaret died Feb 26, 1885 at 33 years of age in Donaghadee. Samuel & Sarah also had a daughter, Isabella who was born May 19, 1868 & died Feb 4, 1882 at 13 years of age.  Samuel & Sarah may have had a son, William & another daughter, Eliza, but I haven't confirmed this.  Have you come across any information about this family?

  • Hi Sorry I only just found your post last week. I do not have any Carsons over in Donaghodee that I know of. Have you done a DNA test yet? 

    It looks a bit hard to identify your family members and confirm the relationships. Are you from the Alice Stewart and William McGimpsey marrage?

    Hope you have made some good progress.

  • Hello Greta,

    Thank you for your reply.  No, unfortunately I haven't made any further progress with this.  I was married to William Chris Stewart McGimpsey for 37 years.  He passed away in 2009 & I haven't had a DNA test done as my husband & I had no children.  My husband's father's name was Samuel Stewart McGimpsey who was married to Rigmor Marie Jensen.  Samuel's father's name was William McGimpsey who was married to Alice Louisa Reains.  Alice Louisa Reains was the daughter of Margaret Stewart who was married to William John Reains.  Margaret was the daughter of Samuel Stewart & Sarah Carson.
