William Stafford was born 17 May 1798 in Six Mile Cross, county Tyrone. His U.S. Naturalization petition confirms his place of birth and the year he arrived in the U.S. (1828).  William married ELIZABETH ATWELL (b. ~1808). They were married in Ireland because according U.S. census records, two of their children, MARGARET (b. 1826) and JAMES (b. 1927) were born in Ireland. William and Elizabeth had 8 children. William worked as an iron moulder in Providence, RI and died there at the age of 72, in 1870.  He is buried at the North Burial Ground in Providence, RI.

Per WILLIAM STAFFORD  U.S. Naturalization documents (filed in Providence, Rhode Island):  "Respectfully represents William Stafford of Providence in the said county of Providence, that he was born in the town of Six Mile Cross in the County of Tyrone in Ireland; that he came to the United States in the year 1828 and has ever since resided in this county, and for more than one year in this State..."      William was married to Elizabeth ATWELL (b. 1808), also of Ireland.
