My Grandfather was born here in 1880 William Fleming also his sister Cathrine to my grandmother Mary Anne Fleming.
The Castlederg Poor Law Union was officially declared in 1839. The Workhouse was opened in 1841 at a cost of £2,584. It was built to house a maximum capacity of 200 inmates. The Castlederg Workhouse was built to accomodate people from the areas of Bomackatall, Castlederg, Castle Gore, Clare, Corgary, Dooish, West Drumquin, Killen, Killeter, Lisnacloon, Listymore, Magheracreggan, Tully, and Tullycar.
The Castlederg Workhouse was closed in 1928 and the buildings were demolished in the 1930's. The site was later occupied by the Derg Valley Hospital which has since closed.
