Classiebawn Castle with Ben Bulben in Background

Classiebawn Castle is located in Mullaghmore in the civil parish of Ballynakill in County Sligo.

The caste was built in 1874 and is more correctly referred to as a mansion than a castle in the true sense as it lacks the necessary defensive structures for such a classification.

Classiebawn Castle was designed by architect Rawson Carroll in the Scottish Baronial style.

The castle was built for Lord Palmerston.

Classiebawn Castle is striking, not only for the elabourately detailed design, but also for the location, as it is dramatically perched on a cliffside overlooking the sea with Ben Bulben dominating the surrounding landscape.

The building is preserved to an excellent standard both inside and out.
