Clones Famine Graveyard and Workhouse Archway

Clones Famine graveyard holds no marked graves; the unfortunates who died were brought here in carts from the workhouse, and their bodies interred in large pits.

Each May a public, non denominational service is held, organized by the Famine Committee in memory of those who are interred here.

The memorial archway was  constructed using the original stone from the entrance to the Fever Hospital of Clones Poor Law Union Workhouse and is an exact replica of such.

It was officially unveiled in 2017 thanks to the financial support of ABP Ireland (whose factory now stands on the original site of the workhouse in the neighbouring townland of Teehill) and the support of Ballybay / Clones Municipal District staff & Monaghan County Council.
