Stormont Castle is located in Belfast, County Antrim.
Built in the 1830's, this building is not in fact a castle in the true sense, but is instead a stately manor house built by the Cleland famiily in the Scottish baronial style. The defensive features of the building are all merely for aesthetic purposes.
Stormont Castle is perhaps best known for the political purposes which it served from 1921 to 1972 when it was the official assembly residence of Northern Ireland's Prim Minister.
Today the Castle is open to the public for the purpose of tourism.
