On the 2nd of February, 1880, Charles Stewart Parnell addressed the U.S. House of Representatives. 

The purpose of his visit was to highlight the plight of the Irish people who were struggling through a second, though less disastrous potato famine. 

Parnell was the fourth international leader to be invited to address the house. His speech lasted 32 minutes and was critiqued as being "lack-lustre".
