The first Culture Night took place on the 22nd of September 2006.
Inspired by similar events in Paris, Copenhagen, and Rome, the night of the 22nd say the various cultural institutes of Dublin city stay open late and provide free entry. Several special events and exhibitions took place across the city. Though it began as a Dublin-centred event, Culture Night is now a nationwide event taking place every year in late September. Events range from small gallery exhibitions to the annual open-air performance from the RTÉ Concert Orchestra which is broadcast live on RTÉ Radio.
Culture Night gives people an opportunity to engage with heritage and the arts after hours on a Friday evening. It has gone from strength to strength since it's inception in 2006.
